APIAVote Welcomes President Biden’s Latest Executive Order To Address Racial Equity

WASHINGTON D.C. – Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAVote) issued the following statement after President Joe Biden’s Executive Order to Address Racial Equity. Yesterday, President Biden issued his latest Executive Order focusing on racial equity, entitled, ‘Further Advancing Racial Equity and Support for Underserved Communities Through the Federal Government.’ This Executive Order mandates the creation of annual Equity Action Plans to deploy a number of strategies to address barriers faced by underserved communities. These include: investing in disadvantaged communities, improving language access services, requiring federal agencies to investigate algorithmic discrimination, strengthening community partnerships, addressing emerging risks to civil rights, and other initiatives.

“While Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders have made great progress towards reaching equity with other major racial groups over the past few decades, many challenges remain. President Biden’s latest Executive Order prioritizes many of these issues important to our communities especially in the areas of language access and data equity and has the potential to create significant impact for generations to come,” said Christine Chen, Executive Director of APIAVote.

“We are thankful this administration sees and hears our communities’ concerns and are taking action to bridge the gaps many of us face. We look forward to working with this administration to ensure the actions included in this Executive Order are implemented effectively and that the voices of AAPIs continue to be included.”
