APIAVote Responds to the 2024 Election Outcome

WASHINGTON DC - As we continue to process the election results, we at APIAVote remain as committed as ever to our mission. As our mission states, APIAVote is dedicated to engaging, educating, and empowering Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities to foster a lasting culture of civic engagement. Our commitment goes beyond any single election, it’s about ensuring that AAPI communities are continuously engaged, activated, and supported year-round, making sure our voices are included and powerful throughout the halls of government. We are committed to advocating on behalf of AAPI communities everywhere on issues that matter most—whether it’s equitable access to healthcare, fair representation, educational access, or protections against hate, racism and discrimination.

This election has brought significant wins that we can celebrate, such as Senator Andy Kim, the first Korean American and Asian American Senator from New Jersey, and Suhas Subramanyam, Virginia’s first Indian American representative in Congress (VA-10). Additionally, there are still key races with AAPI candidates awaiting results and Arizona, California, and other states. We urge patience while every vote is counted to ensure every voter has a say in their community’s representation. While this time, we did not see the historic election of our country’s first Asian American and Black woman president, our work will continue with renewed purpose.

We are heartened that this election also demonstrates the continued impact of the AAPI electorate, with early voting data showing even greater turnout compared to 2020. As we move forward, we are focused on building on this momentum, strengthening our infrastructure, and supporting a new generation of AAPI leaders who can champion policies that address the needs of their communities.

Looking ahead, the new Administration and Congress will shape critical issues that affect all our communities. We know that some planned policies will have deep implications for many minority, immigrant, and other marginalized groups – especially as those groups still recover from the policies and rhetoric of the last Trump Administration. We must meet these challenges head on: we must mobilize with greater urgency to combat harmful narratives, and advocate for meaningful solutions that address the social and economic problems facing many Americans today. APIAVote will continue to empower our communities, ensuring that their voices are heard and respected as an essential part of America's democracy.
